This is who we are.
Hey, we are Jessica McMillan and Stephanie Espinoza.
We have been working on creative projects together for almost 15 years. In that time, we found a collaborative partnership built on trust where curiosity, fun, and respect are rooted in our work together. Despite changing employers, products, and teams, we always found a way to balance our respective creative skills and deficits with the other’s and create some cool stuff together in a way that felt aligned and exciting.
Our experience has shown us that this kind of creative alignment has a uniquely energizing quality. It breathes life into you and leaves you feeling full and satisfied like you’ve just had a fantastic meal. Experiencing a truly collaborative process – the moment you realize you are onto something incredible and then the unfolding of it with other creative minds – is something that we can’t get enough of.
But like us, you probably have encountered the many different ways creativity and collaboration can be stifled in the typical workplace environment. If you are a small business owner or entrepreneur, it’s likely that your past experiences might resonate with some of ours:
You are expected to produce at the same breakneck pace forever.
The exciting thing you were hired to do gets the backburner as company priorities unexpectedly shift.
The leaders who love you for your unique and boat-rocking ideas suddenly want to go basic.
The people you built collaborative synergy with get burnt out from the day to day grind and leave.
The list could go on. We’ve seen variations and combinations of these scenarios, and more, in shared and separate workplaces throughout the years. But even after we went into different careers, we returned to the same conversations about work: we believe that on a day-to-day basis our work can be more energizing, grounding, and fulfilling.
While we don’t claim to have solutions to every issue facing good, honest work today, we are up for challenging the status quo.
So we built a cooperative that supports small businesses and cooperatives doing work that matters without burning themselves out.
